A – C

243 ways to win:  When a video slot uses 243 ways to win, you will be asked to make a bet prior to a spin and to choose what denomination or how many coins you wish to bet. You won’t be asked to pick how many lines you want to play. Instead, each and every possible winning combination from left to right can result in a win.

Active Payline: A payline consists of symbols that need to line up in order for you to be rewarded with a prize. If you are betting on a specific payline, that is known as an active payline. It will only become active when you place a bet on it before you spin.

Ante: In card games, before you begin a hand, you will be asked to place a bet. This is a compulsory bet before you receive your cards.

Baccarat: Also known as Punto Bando, Baccarat is a table game that uses 6 or 8 decks of cards.

Balance: The amount you have left after making deposits and placing bets. Simply, it is the amount you have readily available for bets.

Banker: Just another term for the dealer when it comes to table games.

Bankroll: The total amount of money that the player or casino has available for wagering activities.

Beginner’s Luck: It’s a term used when a gambler starts winning when he gambles for the first time.

Bet Max: Bet Max is the maximum amount you wish to stake on a spin.

Bet Min: Bet Min is the minimum amount you wish to place on a spin.

Betting Limits: The minimum and maximum betting limits on a casino video slot.

Blackjack: Also known as 21, Blackjack is a card game where you to play against the dealer by reaching number 21 without exceeding it.

Bonus feature: A bonus feature is triggered by present symbols when they land in a certain position on a payline. Bonus rounds usually reward you with free spins.

Caribbean Stud: A table game based on online poker but played at a blackjack-type table against the House.

Cascading/Collapsing Reels: Cascading reels is a casino slot feature whereby symbols which land on a winning payline will be replaced straightaway by new ones. Replacement symbols can go on to create new winning combinations which in turn will be replaced by new symbols. This will go on until there are no more winning combinations.

Casino Tournament: A casino tournament is a tournament where you play a range of slots or table games with the aim of coming at the top of the leaderboard to win a prize. The player with the highest score at the end of the tournament will either win a bonus, real money or a tournament prize.

Cashback:  A casino cashback is a refund in bonus money or real cash, that you will receive after losing money whilst playing. The casino tends to offer a percentage of your losses back.

Casino Advantage: The house edge an online casino has over its players.

Classic Slots: Classic slots are retro-style video slots consisting mainly of just 3 reels. Also known as ‘fruit machines’ or ‘classic vegas slots’, these were the first games to go online.

Coins: The amount you would be betting on each pay line, which in turn would give you the total you would be betting on each spin.

Craps: Craps is a dice game where players make bets on the outcome of the roll. This game is considered a table game.

Croupier: A term most commonly used in European casinos in games such as Baccarat or Craps. It’s another term for a dealer.


D – J

Deal: A card that is dealt to a player during a game.

Dealer: A dealer is a casino representative who manages a table game.

Deck: the standard 52 cards used in a game of online blackjack.

Deuce: Number 2 in dice.

Double or Nothing: A stake that pays the same amount as wagered or nothing.

Draw: When a player takes additional cards in card games such as Blackjack and Baccarat.

Edge: The odds favoring the casino, also known as House Edge or Advantage.

Expanding Wilds: Expanding Wilds are symbols that fall onto a reel and expand to cover the reel entirely. This in turn creates a number of winning combinations, especially since they tend to touch on multiple pay lines.

Face Cards: The Jack, Queen and King of any suit.

Fold: Abandoning a hand and losing a bet in a table card game.

Free spins: Free Spins are spins that cost you nothing. Free spins are either awarded by a casino as part of a promotion or else triggered by playing a slot game.

Hand: The set of cards a player has in his possession during a round. This term is mostly used in table games.

High Roller: A person who makes large bets.

Hit: Used in online blackjack, a hit is a request for another card.

Hole Card: A Hole Card is the face down card a dealer receives during a game of blackjack. In other table games, a hole card is the card the player receives.

House: Another term for casino.

House Edge: The chances and percentage ratio a casino has of winning over players.

House Rules: The regulations of a particular video slot or table game including buy-ins.

Inside Bets: An Inside Bet is a bet placed on inside the numbers in a game of Roulette.

Insurance: It is a bet which is offered to the player in online blackjack when his face up card is an ace.

Insurance Bet: Two or more bets that cover each other.

Jackpot: A jackpot is a cumulative prize whose value keeps increasing a small amount every time someone plays that particular video slot. The jackpot will keep on growing until someone hits the jackpot. The same process would restart after the jackpot has dropped.


K – Z

Limits: The minimum and maximum amounts that can be staked on a single bet.

Line Bet: The price a player pays for a bet per active payline.

Mobile slots/games: Mobile games are slots that can be played specifically on your smartphone or tablet. These can usually be accessed via an internet browser or by downloading the casino’s mobile app.

MultiPlayer Casino: Players playing against other players online in money games.

Multiplier: These are symbols that carry specific values that will multiply your winnings.

Odds: The chances of winning and possible outcome.

Online casino games: Also known as slot machines or video slots, these are games that can either be instantly played or downloaded.

Outside Bets: Bets whereby chips are placed outside the number layout in online roulette.

Network Jackpot: This type of jackpot is made up of bets from players across all online casinos that host it. An example of this would be NetEnt’s Mega Fortune.

Payline: A payline is a sequence of positions on the reels that read from left to right. When you’re playing an online slot, you’re usually betting on a number of paylines. If symbols form a winning combination on a payline you’re betting on, then you will receive a payout.

Paytable: Each and every video slot comes with a pay table that provides players with essential information such as winning payline combinations and how the slot works. It ultimately encompasses winning amounts for each payline combination.

Progressive Jackpot: A progressive jackpot is a jackpot that keeps on growing based on the number of players playing the slot that hosts it and placing bets.

Progressive Slot: A progressive slot is a game that has a jackpot that increases incrementally as players play the game.

Punto Banco: Another term for Baccarat.

Reel: A reel is a wheel/column that is spun alongside other reels in an attempt to create winning combinations.

RNG (Random Number Generator): A RNG is a normal video slot that determines the winning and losing combinations and ultimately produces the outcome of each spin.

Scatters: Scatters are symbols that when they fall within a payline will trigger either free spins. Even if they don’t fall within a payline, wherever they land on the reels, they tend to pay out.

Shifting Wilds: Shifting Wild shift around the reels with each spin every time there is a winning combination. During a winning combination, the winning symbols will be removed and the Shifting Wilds will shift positions.

Slots: A digital form of the classic slot machines. Reels have to be spun and symbols have to line up in order to achieve a payout.

Stacked Wilds: These Wilds act as substitutes replacing other symbols in the process to help create winning paylines and bringing you wins.

Sticky Wilds: Similar to a standard wild, a Sticky Wild will substitute for other symbols to create a winning line with the sole difference that these will stay put for subsequent spins.

Twenty-One: Another term for blackjack.

VIP: Also known as a high roller, a VIP refers to a player that places large bets.

Wager: A bet

Wild Symbols: There are a number of different wilds but wilds in general have one specific aim: To substitute for any other symbol to help create a winning combination.

Withdrawal:  When a player requests to draw money from his account.
